Southern Union State Community College

Welcome to Southern Union State Community College

No matter what career or personal goals, Southern Union State Community College (SUSCC) can help set a person on the path to success. The college serves residents of an eight county area of East and Central Alabama as well as neighboring Georgia counties. Our three-faceted educational emphasis is on academic programs for transferability, technical programs for specialized career competencies, and health sciences programs for specialized training in the health field. To ensure a comprehensive college experience, students at Southern Union can choose from a variety of activities, clubs and academic honoraries in which to participate.

Students come from a variety of backgrounds, traditions and life circumstances and bring a myriad of viewpoints to the classroom and campus life. However, the more than 5,000 students who roam the three campuses today possess the same hope and determination to succeed as did the 51 students who filled the very first structure in 1922.

  • SUSCC has three campuses located in Wadley, Opelika, and Valley.

  • SUSCC is the second-oldest two-year college in Alabama and celebrated its centennial year in 2022.

  • Southern Union is one of a select few community colleges to offer a comprehensive program in the fine arts.

  • Southern Union fields athletic teams in 11 sports, including the only soccer program in the Alabama Community College Conference.

The Student Right to Know Act was passed by the 2023 Alabama Legislature. This Act commissioned ACHE to create the HORIZON Student Database as an interactive resource for students and parents focusing on costs, degree programs, and student success at Alabama’s colleges and universities.

College Navigator is an online tool designed to help students, parents, and other consumers evaluate colleges and universities.  The site includes institutional data on academic programs offered, retention and graduation rates, tuition and fees, financial aid, degrees awarded, campus safety, and accreditation.

Institutional profiles are compiled to provide a comprehensive overview of Alabama’s participating higher education institutions. They play a crucial role in facilitating comparisons between different educational entities and supporting evidence-based decision-making in the field of higher education.
