Bevill State Community College (BEV) was established in 1992 through the merger of two distinguished two-year colleges originally founded by the initial legislation: Walker State Technical College, initially a vocational/technical institution inaugurated in 1966, and Brewer State Junior College, a two-year academic transfer institution established in 1969. Additionally, the Hamilton Campus of Northwest Alabama Community College, predominantly a vocational/technical campus founded in 1966, became one of Bevill State’s primary campuses following its integration in 1993. UAB/Walker College, which began as an academic transfer college in 1938, completed the formation of the Bevill State four-campus college in 1998.
Covering a vast area of over 4,600 square miles, Bevill State Community College serves a population of over one-quarter million people across seven counties, extending from the Birmingham city limits to the Mississippi state line.
